The Madison Hotel Rings in a New Summer Tradition

MEMPHIS, Tenn. June 17, 2003 - There's little doubt that Memphis is proud of its traditions. From the city's unparalleled musical heritage to the majestic history of the Mississippi River, Memphis holds dear the things that clearly define its personality.

Which is why the Madison Hotel, the city's premier luxury hotel, is pleased to announce a special new tradition of its own. Beginning Thursday, June 19, and continuing every Thursday evening throughout the summer, the Madison will add a new centerpiece to its weekly Sunset Atop the Madison rooftop parties.

Precisely at sunset, a local celebrity will ring an actual bronze ship's bell made by the same company that supplies the famed Memphis Queen Riverboat line. The bell will be rung four times - each ring a heartfelt toast to 1) the sunset, 2) the river, 3) the people of Memphis and 4) our great country. The celebrity bell ringer for the inaugural event on June 19 will be WMC-TV news anchor Joe Birch.

For more information about the Madison Hotel, the weekly Sunset Atop the Madison event and the inaugural bell ringing, please contact Paul Chandler at (901) 761-5748 or E-mail pchandler@cecnet.com.

The Madison Hotel is located in the former Tennessee Trust Building at 79 Madison Ave. It was rehabilitated for use as a 110-room luxury boutique hotel that features stylish, contemporary dŽcor, and imported fabrics and furnishings that give it a distinctly European feel. From the portraits of blues artists in the mezzanine to the clef sign-shaped stair rail, the hotel's design pays tribute to the heritage of Memphis musicians while maintaining the tradition of southern hospitality and community values. Hotel amenities include an indoor heated lap pool, a bank vault converted fitness center, 24-hour in-room dining and a rooftop pavilion that features sweeping views of the Mississippi River.

The Madison Hotel is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World and a AAA 4 Diamond award recipient
